Kia has announced that the K900, an all-new rear-wheel drive V8 sedan, will make its television debut on Christmas day during marquis NBA games.
The holiday commercial, called “Preconceived Notions” will launch an ad campaign that will extend through spring of 2014, including a 60-second spot that will air during the Super Bowl.
Kia K900: Changing Preconceived Notions
While we haven’t seen the commercial yet, the title “Preconceived Notions” seems perfect for the new Kia K900.
Kia, best known for tech-savvy, youth-oriented smaller cars, is shifting the brand perception with cars like the K900, a large, rear-wheel drive, horsepower-heavy sedan. This is the first time Kia has offered a rear-wheel drive sedan with a V8 engine.
According to a press release from Kia Motors, “the K900 is poised to challenge the full-size rear-drive luxury sedan segment, and the first spot’s tagline – ‘It Challenges Everything’ – makes it clear that something different is going on at Kia.”
The spot will also be available for viewing beginning Dec. 25th on Kia’s official YouTube channel.
“We are making our boldest statement yet and redefining what the Kia brand stands for with the launch of the K900.”
– Michael Sprague, VP of Kia Marketing & Communications
Kia’s NBA Connection
Kia has an ongoing and successful partnership with the NBA, so placing the new ad during an NBA game makes perfect sense.
Kia has been the sponsor of the MVP honor, officially called the Kia NBA MVP Award. Kia also sponsors the association’s Performance Awards, which includes best defensive player, most improved player, and rookie of the year.
One of Kia’s most popular ad campaigns has included NBA star Blake Griffin, who also won the 2011 Dunk Contest by jumping over a Kia Optima.
So while Kia is attempting to shift their brand perception with the K900, they are using tried-and-true techniques to accomplish the task.
