The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety recently released their safest cars for the 2013 Model Year, and the Kia Optima was given an exclusive Top Safety Pick+ award.
While 117 vehicles were given named a Top Safety Pick, only 13 were given the “+” designation.
The IIHS tests vehicles and designates a good, acceptable, marginal, or poor rating on a multitude of tests, including front, side, rear and rollover collisions.
The Kia Optima earned good and acceptable ratings in all the IIHS small overlap tests, and top marks in other IIHS evaluations.
Kia Optima is a Top Safety Pick+ Award Winner
The small overlap tests are designed to simulate a frontal collision with another vehicle or a tree or pole. The tests help auto makers determine the best ways to improve safety in all cars, trucks, and SUVs.
The tests involve crash test dummies and advanced data analysis to create a thorough picture of impacts and their effects on drivers and passengers.
The tests also include evaluations of seat restraints for protection against neck injuries in different types of crashes.
The Kia Optima wasn’t the only award winner from Kia. The Kia Sportage, Sorento, Forte, and Soul all won Top Safety Pick awards. These cars show Kia’s commitment to providing safety and security while maintaining Kia’s reputation as the best looking cars on the road.
