Kia has released a teaser image of their new passenger vehicle, which is set to debut at the New York International Auto Show begining Friday, April 18th.
While the automaker hasn’t given many details on the vehicle, the teaser image shows a sporty-looking front-end with Kia’s signature grille and a low roof-line.
Kia has said that the new vehicle will have seating for eight and enough room for plenty of cargo. That’s about where the details end, leaving us to speculate on engine options, transmissions, technology, and other specifics.
New Kia Vehicle Heading For a Big Apple Debut
Although some publications are reporting that the new vehicle is actually the next Kia Sedona minivan, the release from Kia has no mention of a name. While anything is possible at this point, it seems more likely that this is a brand new model.
No matter what it’s called, the new passenger vehicle will compete with minivans and family-friendly crossover SUVs like the Honda Odyssey.
From a styling angle, the vehicle clearly holds Kia’s signature “Tigernose” grill along with design themes that appear to be lifted from the Cadenza, Kia’s front-wheel drive luxury sedan. That’s definitely a good thing, as the Cadenza has become a darling among car buyers and the automotive media.
It’s not completely clear, but the teaser image shows a vehicle that appears to be built for rear sliding doors that would be found on a family minivan.
While Kia hasn’t given any information on the engines and transmission choices, it seems likely that the vehicle will be available with a four-cylinder and a V6 engine options along with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Likely candidates include the 2.4L four-cylinder and the 3.3L V6. Current Kia vehicles with the 3.3L include the Sorento and Cadenza.
Along the Kia Sedona minivan, Kia has other excellent people movers like the Kia Sorento crossover, which offers the utility of a traditional SUV with better handling and fuel-efficiency. The Sorento is available with third-row seating, giving excellent space for passengers and cargo.
