In an effort to educate more teenage drivers, Kia and B.R.A.K.E.S. (Be Responsible And Keep Everyone Safe) are expanding their hands-on defensive driving program to new cities across the U.S.
The program gives teen drivers the chance to get behind the wheel in simulated scenarios, including control and recovery, distracted driving and panic stops.
Kia and BRAKES Expand Driving Education
Earlier this year, we reported that Kia has teamed with B.R.A.K.E.S. by providing 32 vehicles for the education program.
Now the program is expanding to include Raleigh, North Carolina, Pomona, California, and Irvine, California. According to a statement from Kia Motors, additional schools are expected to be added in the Raleigh area.
Kia is the official sponsor of the B.R.A.K.E.S. program, which was founded in 2008 by Doug Herbert, who lost two sons in a tragic car accident.
The program has been teaching young people safe driving habits in the hopes that it will prevent injuries and save lives.
The program provides nearly four-hours of safe driving instruction, with a three-to-one student-to-teacher ratio, giving students that chance to fully absorb the information and get plenty of instruction.
Parents are also encouraged to participate. Parents are taught that setting driving rules can reduce the chances of a crash by 50% and decrease the likelihood of drunk driving by 71%. Active engagement from parents can also reduce cell-phone use and speeding.
Nearly 10,000 students across the U.S. and Canada have completed the safe driving course.
Kia leaders have emphasized that working towards saver roads is a responsibility for all automakers. Kia officials have dedicated time and energy towards safer cars, and safer drivers.
“KMA’s partnership with B.R.A.K.E.S. underscores our company’s commitment to safety and to giving back to the communities in which we do business.”
