Kia’s Georgia assembly plant celebrated a large milestone last week, as it rolled out its one millionth vehicle.
A 2014 Kia Sorento SXL, covered in snow white pearl paint, was given a special ceremony on the floor of the plant, with employees from the facility in attendance.
Kia initially invested $1 billion to create the manufacturing plant in West Point, Georgia, with production beginning on November 16th, 2009.
A $1 million expansion was completed in early 2012, increasing the annual capacity of the facility to 360,000 vehicles, which includes the Kia Optima sedan and Kia Sorento SUV.
The Optima was added to the plant’s production line in 2011, and has been Kia’s best-selling vehicle in the U.S. for 19 consecutive months.
The site works together with on-site and local suppliers to create over 11,000 jobs in the surrounding area.
“People are the heart and soul of this company, and our team members’ commitment to world class quality is one of the major driving forces behind Kia’s unprecedented sales and market share growth in the U.S. over the last few years.”
– Byung Mo Ahn, CEO for Kia Motors America
